Senior PHP Developer

Purpose of position

Team Raptor are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to increase both the skill and quality levels within the team. The successful candidate will be taking an active role during planning and will be mentoring other members of the team. The Engineering Department has recently evolved in to a new Service Oriented Team structure and towards a Service Oriented Architecture strategy, so the ability to help mould the team in this new environment will be important.

Key Tasks

Key responsibilities within this superb role include:
  • Engineering designs to a high quality
  • Code development, refactoring and innovation
  • Building new products and helping shape development technologies and practices
  • Helping re-engineer and continuously improving existing applications
  • To work with new technologies and be encouraged to experiment and innovate 
  • Contribute to group developments and initiatives
  • Work inside a small scrum or Kanban team with a well described and groomed product backlog and be comfortable with agile methodologies and practices 
  • Build great user experiences

Skills & Expertise

To be successful you will need to meet the below requirements.
  • Excellent PHP skills
  • Strong JavaScript skills
  • Knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases
  • A passion for writing elegant code and a desire to constantly re-factor and improve, with a good understanding of OO programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication 
  • Ability to follow sprint/project plans and meet commitments 
  • Knowledge of a Version Control System (Subversion, Mercurial, Git)
  • Strong experience using Continuous Integration (CI) tools such as Jenkins, Travis, PHPCI, etc.
  • Ability to  communicate to technical peers in a timely and responsible manner Experience with Big Data and NoSQL solutions 
  • Demonstrable experience with other languages and frameworks
  • Contributions to open source code or projects
